Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, today joined residents from the community of Katherine to officially open a new adventure playground complete with bongo drums, a spring motion surf rider and Frank the Fire Truck .
The Australian Government provided $260,000 for the project from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP), with $320,000 from the Northern Territory Government and $120,000 from the Katherine Town Council.
"This is a great example of a how a community and all three levels of government can work co-operatively to achieve a great outcome to help build a stronger region for the future,” Mr Snowdon said.
“I thank and congratulate all those involved, particularly the Katherine Town Council, the Rotary Club of Darwin and the Varity Club NT, and the many Katherine businesses that generously donated time and money to this community project.
“This first class playground will be a great facility for young families in the region, who can use the it to keep healthy and active.
“This adventure playground has three separate areas which have equipment to cater for everyone from toddlers through to teenagers.
“It has a Liberty Swing, which means people in wheelchairs can also be part of the fun, and importantly it has great shade – so no matter what the weather – families can come out and enjoy themselves,” Mr Snowdon said.
The $715,000 playground consists of:
- Bongo Drums
- Frank the fire truck
- 2 x amazon playground systems and Teenranger playground system
- Freestanding 3 bay swing set
- Street & Park daisy table
- Grow n play system
- Spring motion equipment: mini bike rocker, multi rocker 8 seat, motion comet, surf rider
Mr Snowdon said the Australian Government is determined to act decisively with local communities to support jobs and improve the quality of local infrastructure in the Katherine region.
