The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Warren Snowdon, today reminded veterans affected by recent flooding across Eastern and Southern Australia that a number of services are available to help them and their families.
Mr Snowdon said the unseasonal weather and flooding across a large area had impacted many people.
“Those in the veteran community can rest assured that immediate support is available to help people affected by natural disasters, and at other times of need.
“The Department of Veterans’ Affairs can help access information on insurance, payments and counselling and I encourage those who have concerns to take advantage of these services,” Mr Snowdon said.
Assistance is available for the following:
- DVA payments – call the Department to discuss your circumstances. Regional callers can ring 1800 555 254, for the price of a local call.
- Property insurance – Veterans who have their property insured with Defence Service Homes Insurance and whose property has been affected by the floods are encouraged to contact their local customer service officer on 1300 552 662.
- Veterans’ Affairs Network (VAN) offices – To contact your local office call
1300 55 1918. - The VVCS – Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service – Provides supportive, confidential counselling to veterans and their families. The VVCS can be contacted on 1800 011 046, 24 hours a day.
