THE HON WARREN SNOWDON MP
Member for Linigari
Minister for Indigenous Health

The Australian Government is continuing to support Aboriginal people in Lingiari to get training and find work as part of a $47 million boost to Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) across the country.
Minister for Indigenous Health and Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon said 29 service providers would receive a share of $17 million for local community projects that provide work experience for Indigenous job seekers and benefit the wider community.
“CDEP funding is used across the country to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers gain the skills needed to find sustainable employment and contributes strongly to personal, social and economic development,” Mr Snowdon said.
“A job provides more than just a pay packet. It gives people purpose and pride.
“It also provides stability in people’s lives. That’s why the Gillard Labor Government wants to see people getting the support they need, to access training and work experience, all to help them find a job."
Local providers like Bawinanga Aboriginal Corp will use the funds to employ development officers, a training coordinator and to deliver more training to Aboriginal job seekers, across more than 30 communities.
The Central Desert Shire Council is another organisation to benefit from a funding grant to cover employment of training coordinators and interpreters and vehicle costs.
“This investment will continue the good work of dozens of training providers right across the Northern Territory.”
“We are committed to ensuring that local Aboriginal people have the skills necessary to get and keep a job,” Mr Snowdon said.
Community Development Employment Projects is a key contributor to the Government’s aim of halving the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous employment within a decade.
