18 November 2011
The Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, has officially opened new education facilities at three schools in Katherine built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
A new $2.2 million multipurpose hall has been built at McFarlane Primary School in Katherine East and is now ready for students.
Kintore Street School students are celebrating the completion of new resource centre and student amenities, valued at $626,000.
A new sports science centre has been opened at Katherine High School, after receiving $2.1 million from the Australian Government.
The BER is a key element of the Australian Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important education and other infrastructure for the long term.
Mr Snowdon congratulated Katherine High School, McFarlane Primary School and the Kintore Street School on their new facilities
“It is tremendous to be able to visit these three great schools in Katherine, to see their new facilities, a multipurpose hall, resource centre and sport science centre being put to use by the students themselves.
“As a former teacher in Territory schools, I know the importance of our teachers and students having the best facilities so that our children can get the highest quality education possible.
“I know we’ll soon see the benefits the facilities will bring to our kids education,” Mr Snowdon said.
The Australian Government is investing $184 million in 298 BER projects in the electorate of Lingiari. This is benefitting 124 government schools and 32 non-government schools.
“And parents and teachers in every Territory school I have been to have told me what great value and importance the BER program has been,” he said.
