THE HON WARREN SNOWDON MP
Member for Lingiari
1 February 2012
Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, today announced he has signed up to febfast – a national health and fundraising initiative which challenges people to send their grog on a holiday in February, the shortest month of the year.
"I’m proud to join the growing number of Australian’s that opt to give up grog for the month and by doing so raise money to help young Australians overcome alcohol, drug and mental health problems," Mr Snowdon said.
"All the money from febfast goes directly to community services throughout Australia who provide support, mentoring, counseling and training for young people."
Mr Snowdon also threw down the challenge to people across the community to join the febfast challenge.
"This is an opportunity for all of us to put down the grog and help out worthwhile community groups that do terrific work helping disadvantaged and at-risk young people."
"Keep the drinks on ice for a few weeks and do your bit to help out our young men and women."
Mr Snowdon said a number of worthwhile community organisations would benefit directly from the money raised this year – including BushMob in Alice Springs.
"BushMob has worked with thousands of people in Central Australia since starting in 1999 – helping marginalised and at-risk young Aboriginal men and women through programs like Bush Adventure Therapy."
"BushMob also runs a treatment house to care for young people that suffer from substance abuse or are exposed to violence at home," Mr Snowdon said.
"If anyone can spare a few dollars please visit my fundraising page and help out a worthy cause," Mr Snowdon said.
