THE HON WARREN SNOWDON MP

Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, said an eerie silence appears to have engulfed Northern Territory coalition representatives Nigel Scullion and Natasha Griggs following the announcment that Chief Minister Terry Mills would jack-up the cost of living in the Territory.
"Last week the Chief Minister and his self-confessed innumerate Treasurer Robyn Lambley* announced electricity would rise by 30 per cent, sewage by 25 per cent and water by 40 per cent from January 1, 2013," Mr Snowdon said.
"The community has been outraged at the announcement, particularly after Chief Minister Terry Mills ‘pledged’ during the election that he would drive down the cost of living."
"That promise lies in tatters as families face the reality that January will bring a massive increase to the cost of living in the NT – adding an average $2000 per year to the family budget."
"Strangely the coalition’s Nigel Scullion and Natasha Griggs have remained silent on the planned price hikes."
"That is in stark contrast to the Member for Solomon’s outspoken and tireless crusade warning of impending doom and disaster with the introduction of a carbon price – with Ms Griggs churning out more than thirty media releases."
"I hope Ms Griggs and Senator Scullion find their voice and join me in calling on the Chief Minister to immediately reverse his planned price hikes," Mr Snowdon said.
*"My maths isn’t good.." Deputy Chief Minister, Treasurer and Education Minister Robyn Lambley to reporters 20/10/12.
