Federal Member for Lingiari Warren Snowdon today called for contractors at Inpex to resolve the dispute which has left more than 800 workers, including 300 locals without work.
“These multinational corporations need to, just for once, put their own self interest to the back of their minds and seek a speedy resolution to get these people back to work,” Mr Snowdon said.
“Families with bills and rent or mortgages to pay deserve better than this. To have these people turn up to work early in the morning, only to be gut wrenchingly told they no longer have jobs, is disgraceful,” Mr Snowdon said.
“I support the efforts of these workers and their representatives in the union movement in seeking justice in the face of this shameful treatment,” Mr Snowdon said.
“The onus is now on Laing O’Rourke to find these workers new employment, whether it be on the Inpex project or elsewhere.” Mr Snowdon said.
“These workers should not be cannon fodder in a commercial dispute,” Mr Snowdon said.
Workers affected by this dispute deserve a fair outcome.
