The Turnbull Government’s Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) has come under fire after it was revealed in Senate Estimates that only 1 in 10 projects under active consideration by the NAIF are in the Northern Territory, despite Board members claiming upwards of $600,000 in taxpayer funded perks.
An opening statement tabled by Ms Laurie Walker, CEO of the NAIF during Estimates showed that only 13 percent of projects under active consideration are located in the NT, whilst 50 per cent of active projects were in Queensland and 28 percent in Western Australia. (A location was not given for 8 per cent of other projects).
The NAIF is clearly a slush fund set up by the Turnbull Government to try and buy seats in North Queensland.
Malcolm Turnbull doesn’t give a toss about the Top End. The only investment Malcolm Turnbull’s NAIF has made is in executive salaries and travel. There was nothing in his unfair Budget for our schools, hospitals, roads or power.
For the Territory to gets its fair share requires a fundamental shift in how this out of touch Turnbull Government thinks about the Northern Territory.
Malcolm Turnbull and Matt Canavan need to understand Northern Australia doesn’t end at the Queensland/NT border.
