Warren Snowdon MP, Member for Lingiari, today welcomed the release of the NT Alcohol Review by the Northern Territory Government.
The report appears balanced and seeks to address what is a major public health and justice issue for the NT, being the excessive consumption of alcohol with all the negative flow on effects that entails.
“I am especially pleased to see the floor price on alcohol products being recommended and accepted as this is an issue which I have been advocating for, for many years”
“The recommendations make a range of sensible improvements that will improve the well-being of Aboriginal people”.
Mr Snowdon said the whole community would benefit from the balanced recommendations.
The community shouldn’t be afraid of hard decisions being made which will have a positive impact on the community.
“A new unit in the Chief Minister’s Department, to co-ordinate implementation of the Review, will ensure the final steps taken are expeditious” he said.
“These add to other steps the NT Government has recently taken to address the concerns of many in the community on these matters.
Mr Snowdon thanked the participants in the Review process.
“I will be discussing these matters with all members of the community as I move around the Territory over the last months of 2017”.
