Labor is delivering on our commitment to bring the Senate Inquiry into the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) to the North, with a hearing to be held in Darwin on 2 February.
Since it was first announced more than two and a half years ago, Mr. Turnbull’s NAIF has failed to spend a single cent on job generating infrastructure for the Northern Territory. Over the same time the NAIF has spent more than half a million dollars on executive salaries and travel perks.
Labor fought to deliver this inquiry into the NAIF because of serious issues with how the NAIF operates, such as:
- Unexplained conflicts of interest on the part of NAIF board members,
- Issues with a lack of transparency and a refusal to respond to FOIs,
- Poor governance measures, and
- Unreasonable delays in funding projects.
Mr Turnbull’s NAIF clearly isn’t working. We want to hear from people in the North about how the NAIF has let them down and what we can do to help fix it. While Mr Turnbull is busy playing Canberra games, Labor is fighting to make sure that he can’t keep ignoring the Northern Territory. By bringing the Senate Inquiry to the North we’ll make sure he can’t.
