The Federal Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, welcomes the official opening of two new high level bridges over the Roper river and Wilton river crossings today.
Mr Snowdon congratulates all those involved in the project recognising this is a significant investment in bush roads.
Mr Snowdon made the initial funding announcement for the two Bridges in August 2012 at Roper Bar, the funding was a commitment to regional roads by the previous Labor Government. The Roper Highway Project was identified as one of six regional roads to receive funding from a $90M Regional Roads Productivity Package.
The Roper and Wilton bridges are not only a significant investment in the future of the Territory, but will encourage growth and development in the many communities along the Roper Highway, especially for the larger towns of Ngukurr and Numbulwar.
Investing in regional roads like the Roper Highway is an investment in the region unlocking economic opportunities and supporting industries like; tourism, pastoral and resources.
I am thrilled these two pieces of major infrastructure have finally been realised, and most importantly the new Roper and Wilton Bridges will ensure remote residents in the Roper region now have safer and better access to more services in the region particularly in the wet season, Mr Snowdon said.
