Labor welcomes reports that the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) will support the expansion of Northern Territory Airports in Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
The NT is on the doorstep of the world’s fastest growing middle class in Asia. By 2030, there will be three billion middle class consumers just to our north.
We want them to buy Australian fruit and vegetables from local farmers
This expansion will help farmers to put mangoes, melons and other crops in the belly of planes and in the belly of Asian consumers.
This is great news for the Territory – but the question remains, after more than three years since the NAIF was first announced, why is it taking so long for projects like this in the NT to receive funding.
With construction work at the INPEX LNG project starting to wrap up NAIF should be funding more projects in the NT.
