Media releases Thursday, 21 May 2009 Almost $5 million more for Lingiari schools The Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, Member for Lingiari, today announced a further 51 schools across the wider Northern Territory would share in close to $5 million to help refurbish their classrooms and grounds. The $4,775,000 Lingiari investment is Round 2 of the National School Pride (NSP) program, which has already delivered $8,175,000 to schools from Nhulunbuy to Haasts Bluff to improve shade, paint rooms, build fences, and generally make their schools better places to teach and learn. Mr Snowdon said this latest round of funding will see buildings repaired at Walungurru School at Kintore, see Pine Creek School get an outdoor learning area, and Katherine South Primary School get a Safety Pick Up Zone. “Having our Territory schools and our local communities benefit from the Federal Government’s $14.7 billion investment in vital school infrastructure and local jobs is just wonderful,” Mr Snowdon said. “In total, the Rudd Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) has already delivered more than $57.8 million for much needed school infrastructure projects in Lingiari. “It is investment in local jobs right now, and an investment in our communities and our children into the future.” Mr Snowdon was speaking at the Alice Springs School of the Air, which received $75,000 in Round 2 of the National School Pride program to upgrade the teaching area and staff room. “Construction and refurbishment work will commence as soon as possible, and the next few months should be busy in the NT as the investment in our schools flows down to local businesses and others in the construction industry.” Across the whole of the Northern Territory, 63 primary and secondary schools will receive $6.45 million for minor infrastructure and maintenance projects from the National School Pride program Round 2. Round 2 is the final round of the NSP program. BER continues with two elements still open for applications – Primary Schools for the 21st Century Round Two and Three, and Science and Language Centres for the 21st Century.
