Media releases Friday, 12 June 2009 $43.3 million to build libraries and classrooms for Lingiari primary schools Tennant Creek Primary School will receive $2.5 million, Humpty Doo Primary School will receive $2.5 million and Angurugu Community Education Centre on Groote Eylandt will receive $2 million to build multi-purpose halls through the latest round of the Rudd Government’s Primary Schools for the 21st Century. The Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, Member for Lingiari said 46 primary schools in the electorate of Lingiari will share in $43.3 million for major new infrastructure. Speaking at Gillen Primary School in Alice Springs, which will receive $2 million for a multi-purpose learning area, Mr Snowdon said this huge Federal Government investment in our local primary schools is very much overdue and will go a long way to supporting local jobs during the global recession. “Our kids benefit; the teachers benefit; the communities benefit; the local economy benefits from what is the largest school modernisation program in Australia’s history,” Mr Snowdon said. “The $43.3 million for Lingiari in Round Two of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) Program brings the total investment in our primary schools to $88.1 million, with Round Three still to come. “From Adelaide River to Willowra, our children deserve the best possible facilities in which to learn - and the Building the Education Revolution and P21 delivers it.” Building the Education Revolution is a key element of the Rudd Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long-term. "A total $76.9 million across 62 primary schools is being spent in the whole of the Northern Territory in Round Two, and I encourage all remaining primary schools to get in their applications for Round Three, which closes on 10 July 2009. “It is great to see local principals, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects,” Mr Snowdon said.
