Schools benefiting from Building the Education Revolution right across the NT

Federal Member for Lingiari, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, today confirmed that more than $100 million of school infrastructure projects are underway right across the NT improving our schools, and benefiting our kids, teachers, community and economy.

“The CLP have got it wrong once again, worrying Territory teachers and our outback communities unnecessarily that they might not get their school improvements,” said Mr Snowdon.

“But already tenders, and in some cases work is underway, for the $8.175 million dollars to be spent in Lingiari for the First Round of the National School Pride Program.

“This means the canteen will be upgraded at Gunbalyana CEC, Alice Springs High School is getting their refurbished library and buildings, and MacFarlane Primary School in Katherine will soon enjoy shaded playgrounds.

“And now tenders are being drawn up for Round 2 under the National School Pride Program, which will see a further $4.75 million go to our schools for refurbishment.

“Then too, there is $88.1 million to be spent on major infrastructure for our primary schools from Humpty Doo to Willowra.

“Just the other week I visited Katherine South Primary School that received $2 million in Round One, and they already have impressive designs for the amalgamation of the nearby preschool into the primary school.

“I am sorry to hear that the NT Government’s Repair and Maintenance work at resurfacing the basketball court at Milikipati has so far failed to get a contractor, but despite what the CLP might lead you to think, the $75,000 School Pride work to refresh the school is underway.

“The Rudd Government’s Building the Education Revolution is delivering well overdue investment in vital infrastructure and local jobs in the Northern Territory.”
