Over a million more for NT community infrastructure

The Federal Government’s Community Infrastructure Fund, which has already delivered well over $6 million dollars to the Lingiari electorate, has been boosted by over a $1 million, Member for Lingiari, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP announced today.

“Across the Territory, from Alice Springs to West Arnhem, 14 councils will be getting additional money to build and upgrade local infrastructure like community libraries and sports grounds,” Mr Snowdon said.

The Federal Government has announced an extra $220 million nationally for the Community Infrastructure Fund which will be delivered as follows: $100 million shared between all of the nation’s councils and shires; $120 million for larger Strategic Projects. All councils and shires will have the opportunity to compete for a share of this funding.

This is in addition to the regular funding they receive from the Roads to Recovery Program and Financial Assistance Grants.

Mr Snowdon said Community Infrastructure projects are already underway across the NT and this new money will start to flow from the end of the year to keep the activity going.

“Not only will this work support jobs and our outback town economies, but the Community Infrastructure Fund is making a real difference to the quality of life in Territory towns.

“Whether it’s a new playground, bike paths, even improved rubbish tips, this funding is making the wider Northern Territory an even better place to live.”
