Media releases Tuesday 1st December Date set for the mo to go Minister for Rural and Regional Health Warren Snowdon has committed to shave off his trademark moustache alongside a swag of celebrities at a new men’s health event in Melbourne next week. Mr Snowdon had originally said he would remove his mo only if he raised $50,000 by November 30 for the campaign Movember. To date he’s raised $8,165 and Mr Snowdon says he owes it to the people who donated to remove his treasured mo. “The people who have sponsored me through Movember did so because they thought I would remove this mo, and so I will. I’ve had it for 40 years and next week it will be gone.” Mr Snowdon will remove his mo with the help of cricket legends Merv Hughes, Ian Healy, Damien Fleming and marathon runner Steve Moneghetti. They’re taking part in the inaugural ‘have a crack’ day, organised by men’s health promotion body Andrology Australia (AA). Participants pay to register to play in one of 16 teams alongside sporting celebrities, with all the money raised going to Andrology Australia. Minister Snowdon, a former Alice Springs rugby coach, says sport is a great way to get men involved and interested in men’s health. “Credit must go to Andrology Australia for organising this new event. This organisation provides some excellent free resources to the community and to health professionals on disorders of the male reproductive system, such as testicular cancer and infertility, “Let’s hope a few of the blokes attending the event will get the message and start to pay better attention to their health and have regular checkups,” Mr Snowdon says. You can still donate to Mr Snowdon’s Movember campaign, go to movember.com.au and searching for Warren Snowdon. ‘Have a crack’ day details: 12.30pm Friday the 11th of December at Trinity Grammar Sports fields in Bulleen, in north-east Melbourne.
